Since 2005 Presidio has taken great pride in sponsoring, managing and mentoring a “conveyor belt” of young Fijians playing Rugby Sevens (and also Tens) in the colours of Daveta Rugby (formerly known as Davetalevu), taking these players from predominantly the Nadroga province of South West Fiji.
Our partner in this venture is our great friend, entrepreneur Max Norris, who has sponsored this venture since the early 90’s. Daveta have had great success over the years winning the prestigious Ablitt Cup at the Singapore Cricket Club International Sevens five times, and this year recording an impressive “first” for the club, playing and winning three tournaments back to back, in Borneo, retaining their trophy in Singapore, and then the widely acclaimed COBRA 10’s tournament in Kuala Lumpur, before returning to Fiji to play in a fourth weekend of completion at the Coral Coast 7’s where they secured third place.
An amazing effort! But this is not all the story for us. We get an enormous amount of pride and pleasure in being able to introduce talented young athletes, who are for the most part subsistence farm laborers at home with limited prospects, not just into a wider sporting spotlight where many go on to secure places for themselves in the national Fiji squads, as well as securing contracts to play overseas, but also introducing them to a side of the world that they would not easily be able to access outside of their involvement with our club.
